Complementarianism
Dr. Andy Naselli
September 22, 2020
Cost: $15

Imagine with me the confusion my long deceased grandfathers might suffer were they to return to my world for an afternoon. Imagine them processing the message displayed on my computer screen today: “Irish comedian kicked off Twitter for saying ‘men aren’t women’”? Explaining Twitter to my time-traveling grandpas would prove difficult. I suspect they might be more perplexed by a world in which one is disciplined for asserting that “men aren’t women.” I need say no more to enlighten you than to add that the comedian’s joke addressed transgender persons. “Oh, okay, I get it” you say. “Trans-what?” my grandfathers might well respond.

Indeed our nation’s general perception of the nature, identity, and functional relationship between men and women has likely undergone more change in our lifetimes than in all the centuries since Jesus combined. Such dramatic change influences our churches in systemic ways. In recent years, the flash point has shifted away from complementarians versus egalitarians. Decisive fissures now appear within the complementarian camp itself. Such divisions are already wielding considerable influence upon the future of our churches and the temper of our pastoral fellowships. This influence seems poised to grow.
We have invited Dr. Andy Naselli to help us better understand the shape of current debates regarding the proper roles of men and women in the evangelical world. We will lean on him to help us think critically and biblically about this vital topic.

This is not a doctrine we are free to ignore. It is a doctrine that will expose our loyalties to the authority of God’s revealed Word. While the topic is certainly divisive, we keenly anticipate the joy of laboring together as brothers in Christ as we strive to conform our local churches to the New Testament pattern. We warmly welcome you to join us for these important lectures.
